Deliverance: All new music, all under a tenner!
One of the things we discussed at my interview for the Barn was how to grow our audience and attract new people to the venue. It's a tricky thing and there's no easy solution. The Barn was already putting into place a number of things such as hiring Sam Thom our Digital Media Co-ordinator to train everyone in producing content for this site, facebook etc and we've been actively using them since, but one area that could be improved was programming for that new audience.
So we started talking about a new night which would appeal to people who don't already come to gigs at the Barn. We felt it couldn't stray too far from our regular programming but could explore more contemporary music, an area I have some experience in.
The result of all this is Deliverance, an irregular night luring the best bands from the cities and abandoning them in the country. We're going to pick some bands who are a bit different, they may be a bit noisier, louder or use electronics. Every show will be different and hopefully be a bit special. The aim is to prove that you don't have to go to the city all the time to see the best contemporary bands and that these nights can work in a rural setting too.
Our first event is on December 9th with Katerwaul and Sarah J Stanley: http://www.woodendbarn.co.uk/event/woodend-barn/deliverance-katerwaul-sa...
Then again in February 17th with Meursault and Wounded Knee: http://www.woodendbarn.co.uk/event/woodend-barn/deliverance-meursault-wo...
We're really excited about these shows and hope you are too. As always, let us know what you think!
