Unintentional Detox
It's January and I am back in the Barn office, rattling away at the keyboard making sure that the programme for February and March is ready to be sent out and the website is updated.
Bit of a relief to be back, if I'm honest. Two weeks of having all the family at home generally results in more cleaning, more washing and much more cooking. Add to that my role as events organiser, nurse, referee, and countless other jobs, I am happy to be back in the place where my role is clearly defined and a few people appreciate the effort I make.
Happy, apart from two things.
Buchanans does not open again until 19th January. This has had a surprisingly detrimental (with emphasis on the mental) effect on the office staff. We simply cannot cope without the fantastic coffee and sublime cheese muffins Buchanans provide. We are just not as zappy and inspired as we normally are. As for substituting a powdery cuppasoup for a steaming bowl of Buchanans soup complete with Callum's freshly baked sourdough bread (stop me, I'm about to cry), well, no contest.
So that's my stomach emptiness, but my heart is also empty. The builders are in, making necessary repairs to the Barn but they don't fill the performance space in quite the same way as a theatre troupe or band. The buzz of set-building and sound check is strangly absent at the moment. Our first event will happen on 7th February and it feels like a long time to wait.
But absence makes the heart grow fonder, as the platitude goes, and this period of enforced abstinence of stimulating art and coffee can only sharpen my appetite. In the meantime I hope to whet yours for what we have planned for your entertainment. Keep checking the website, Facebook and Twitter...
Happy New Year to you All!
Sarah
