Scottish Youth Theatre - Summer Festival Foundation Course 2010 - Performance

Saturday 31 July 7.30pm

Scottish Youth Theatre has been running theatre arts courses for over 33 years. Summer Festival offers selected participants the opportunity to spend time in the summer taking part in intensive professional training and performances.

The Foundation Course offers young people aged 12 to 15 the chance to work on general drama skills through a series of workshops and rehearsals. Participants work with professional directors and specialist skills tutors over two weeks to devise, rehearse and perform a new and exciting piece of theatre.

AIYF presents Hungarian Dance Academy and Zeynep Okçu Ballet School

Monday 2 August 7.30pm

The Hungarian Dance Academy

The Hungarian Dance Academy is making a return to the 2010 Festival after a successful visit in 2006. The 20 performing students, aged 16-20, perform a mixed bill of dance, which includes classical and contemporary ballet, Hungarian folk dance and contemporary dances, created mainly by Hungarian choreographers.

Zeynep Okçu Ballet School

Zeynep Okçu Ballet School is located in Bodrum, Turkey, just at the corner of Aegean and Mediterranean Seas. Students train 18 - 20 hours a week with 5 to 10 hours of rehearsals in addition to their technique exercises. As well as taking part in AIYF this year, students are travelling to competitions all over Europe, the USA, Korea, India, South Africa and Japan .

Dance Workshop (2-4pm)

The Hungarian Dance Academy will be offering an afternoon workshop for ages 10+ who have some dance experience.

AIYF presents Dancewave Company and Chameleon Dance

Dancewave Company

Dancewave is a dance troupe of teenagers, aged 13-18, from all over New York City. The company brings young people together through their belief that dance provides a forum for meaningful, positive exchange between kids of all backgrounds and cultures. Formed in 1995 by Diane Jacobowitz, Dancewave creates contemporary programs that are challenging and artistically substantial, which address young people's needs for individual achievement and group identity.

Chameleon Dance

A modern Ballet company from Canada, Chameleon Dance specialise in combining Philippine-inspired dances and images with contemporary ballet. Company leaders are committed to nurturing and showcasing the participant’s versatile talents in dance and its related arts. Their various dance styles include jazz, ethnic/folk dances, hiphop and martial arts, making for unique performances with something to suit all tastes.

AIYF presents Daraadji

Wednesday 4 August 7.30pm

Daraadji

Daraadji are an African culture group from Senegal founded in 1975 bringing together the varied talents of percussionists, dancers, acrobats, musicians and actors.  They perform together regularly at festivals and gathering, and consider themselves to be a family that has been brought together by a mutual love of the arts.

Dance Workshop (2-4pm)

Daraadji will be offering an afternoon workshop for ages 8+, no dance experience required.

Have you got a story to tell? Is it funny, sad, ghostly or mad? Would you like to make up your own songs? Let’s make a puppet show using your own stories and songs.

Having Fun with Clay with Mina Rusk
2 - 3.30pm

Come and create fun clay pots and bowls with your hands, elbows, knees and toes.

£10 per session, £15 per day

Pond dipping with Aileen Salway

Monday 16 August 2.00pm

Come as a family to join Aileen Salway from 2 to 4pm in her search for beasties which lurk in the Wildlife Garden pond.

The dipping will be followed by a chance to make an outdoor exhibit using natural materials for the current sculpture exhibition in the Lang Byre Gallery.

Children must be accompanied by an adult – wellies and gloves recommended!

Angel Exit Theatre presents Moonfleet

A stormy tale of shipwrecks and smuggling inspired by J. Meade Falkner’s classic novel.

A straggling gang of mischievous buffoons are washed up amongst the flotsam onto the wild shores of Chesil Beach, and conspire to spin this compelling yarn of a young orphan boy clashing with smugglers and excise men in his quest to find Blackbeard’s cursed diamond and win the hand of his beloved Grace.

Weaving together live music, striking physicality and puppetry, Angel Exit Theatre invite you to enter a thrilling world of dastardly deeds and wicked escapades. Inspired by J.Meade Falkner’s classic novel, Moonfleet is a rip-roaring show for everyone with a sense of adventure aged from 8 to 108.
