Through their use of mixed media, particularly textiles, both artists express their own personal visions of the rivers running.

The Hazey Janes with support from The Dirty Hand Shakes

Saturday 10 May 8.00pm
Hailing from Dundee, The Hazey Janes, whose debut album ‘Hotel Radio’ (2006) garnered great support from the national music press and radio, are ready for their comeback. After spending most of 2007 in the States with pit stops at the SXSW festival and Hoboken to record with producer John Agnello (The Hold Steady, Dinosaur Jnr), May 2008 sees them release ‘New York’, the first single off their second album. Formed in 2003, The Hazey Janes’ music is a rich and original fusion of folk, country rock and power-pop, reminiscent of Big Star and Velvet Crush. The band’s songwriting and performance is characterised by warm and melodious three-part harmonies, which blend the influences of a strong Scottish musical tradition and a yearning for warm American climes. Listen to them at www.myspace.com/thehazeyjanes

“A life-affirming debut…The Hazey Janes may just be the best haggis-powered country rockers yet.” - Mojo

Farmer Jason

Saturday 31 May 2.00pm

Internationally acclaimed singer-songwriter Jason Ringenberg created his children’s music character Farmer Jason to make music for his daughters.  To his surprise, two cds later, he was playing sell-out children’s shows from Osh Kosh to Oslo in venues ranging from schools and libraries to punk rock clubs.  With a belief that kids and parents can listen to the same music without parents want to blow up the stereo, Farmer Jason introduces listeners to a surprisingly complex musical ecosystem - stylistically free ranging from high energy punk rock to spaced out jazz, the songs, with their stick-in-your-head hooks, also teach subtle lessons about ecology, exercise and history.

Suitable for age 2 - 7 (and their adults!)

Film Night - And When Did You Last See Your Father? (2007) Cert 12A

Friday 6 June 7.30pm
Director Anand Tucker. Starring Jim Broadbent and Colin Firth.
(92 mns)
Past and present are skilfully entwined from the memoirs of Blake Morrison, revealing a complex tangle of emotions. Visiting dad for what he knows is the final time, Blake tries to come to terms with their history. In flashbacks, Arthur is an exuberant but very tactless father. Humiliating the boy in front of prospective girlfriends is bad enough, but his affair with Aunt Beaty guarantees his son's diligent loathing. And yet with age comes wisdom...
"Colin Firth, and especially Jim Broadbent, enthral with wonderfully vivid performances" (BBC Movies Oct 07)

Landscapes and Other Thoughts - Fiona Thomson Exhibition

Sunday 8 June 5.00pm to Monday 21 July 12.00pm
Working as a Scottish Contemporary Artist, Fiona Thomson's paintings explore the environment of Scotland closest to her immediate experiences and try to bring the viewer into the challenge of interpretation. She is drawn to the textural voice of paint and aims to capture the ‘moment' of her subjects with a three dimensional quality where the painting becomes both object and impression. This requires the viewer to ‘read' her work as both subject and abstraction and where new sources of interest are constantly offered to the reader as they contemplate the pieces. Fiona Thomson works mostly with oil paints on box canvases which do not require frames allowing total focus on the artwork dialogue. Her painting for this exhibition will feature Scottish landscapes and some still-life work.
The exhibition continues until Monday 21 July and is open Monday - Friday 9.30am - 12.30pm and during all public events. In addition, the exhibition will be open on Sunday 15 June from 2 - 5pm.

The Outside Track

Friday 18 July 8.00pm
One of the most talked about new bands on the circuit with a line-up that includes BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Award winner 2005, the BBC Fame Academy Bursary winner 2007, and the BBC Scotland Young Traditional Musician of the Year finalist 2008. With an average age well below 25, this precociously talented group of musicians may be young, but between them they have performing credentials that many veteran bands could wish for.
Norah Rendell (Canada) plays flute and sings, Ailie Robertson (Scotland) plays clarsach (harp) and electroharp, Fiona Black (Scotland) plays accordion, Alan Jordan, the only Irish member and the only man in the outfit plays guitar, sings harmonies and takes the lead on the occasional Irish language song, with the lineup completed by award winning Scottish fiddler, Lauren MacColl. Their five talents combine in expressive, energetic arrangements that deliver traditional music with a modern twist. You can hear them on www.myspace.com/theoutsidetrack

Rachel Harrington

Friday 1 August 8.00pm
Rachel Harrington has been doing things in the wrong order for quite some time. She had extensive radio play before performing her first live show, and she opened for Grammy winners and nominees before her debut full-length record was even a glimmer in her eye.
By 2006, Rachel was touring with her songwriting hero, Guy Clark, winning national songwriting awards, and performing at large festivals.
Rachel is touring internationally as a duo, joined by multi-instrumentalist Zak Borden on vocals, mandolin, guitar and various other weapons of mass destruction. A solid songwriter in his own right, Zak has toured extensively throughout the US and UK having worked with, among many others, Casey Neill, The Watson Twins, and his own multi-platinum selling cousin, Willy Mason. Check out Rachel's myspace page for more info and to listen to her music.
