Woodend Allotments

Secondary menu

Woodend Allotments opened in April 2007 after Leys Estate generously leased the group a field behind the Barn and Aberdeenshire Council granted the necessary planning permission. Woodend Arts Limited helped create Woodend Allotments as an independent community group and funds were raised to pay for vital deer and rabbit fencing, as well as a communal summer house where plot holders can relax and enjoy a sociable post-digging beverage.

By summer 2009, with a waiting list of over thirty people, Leys Estate agreed to lease another field for an allotment extension. Funding to fence the site and prepare the ground came from the Climate Challenge Fund in November 2009, planning permission for 45 new plots followed in February 2010 and the allotment extension opened in April 2010. The allotments have proved a runaway success with 112 plot holders, as well as the primary school and three community groups having plots to grow their own produce.
